Through the Palitz Fellowship, I received funding to investigate Street Art in Berlin. This allowed me to explore the city, understand how it is that Berlin became “the graffiti Mecca of the urban art world”, and see amazing pieces of street art while doing it. This internship served as a break from my normal role as a Materials Scientist and Engineer.

Working the atypical life of a documentary maker was absolutely a complete 180 in terms of work culture. I made my own schedule, determined my own direction, answered to no one, frequently travelled around the city, and could grab a few beers mid-day and still be ‘at work’. The free work culture I had was absolutely amazing and a wonderful recharge in my transition period between undergrad and grad school.
