The goal of this project is to gain greater understanding on the topic of baked-in siliconization of glass cartridges for injectable applications to enable optimization and improved device performance.  My project focused on characterizing the current state of the siliconization processes at Site Frankfurt Insulin (SFI), design experiments with pilot scale siliconization equipment and working to develop relationships between silicone profile and device performance using force measurements as an output.

Having the opportunity to engage with a company that is very science driven further instilled the importance of fundamentally understanding the technologies you are working with as a business. The pharma and medical device industry has opened my eyes to a new industry and one that is plagued by conservative decision making and therefore is less dynamic and flexible. I have learned the importance of an impenetrable quality management system, which is the pillar this industry stands on.
