Staying Safe in Social Situations

Stay safe, have fun!

Socializing with your new German friends can be an important part of your time abroad--there’s no better way to learn a new language and culture.  But it’s always smart to take precautions and practice good judgement.

1. When going out, stick with friends. Take care of each other.

2. Stay alert and trust your instincts.

3.  Drink responsibly.  American students have a reputation in Germany for not being able to hold their liquor--don't confirm the stereotype!

4.  Ask your friends and colleagues about areas to avoid.  Even though Germany is a relatively safe country, there are still areas that it may be smart to avoid, especially at night.

Alcohol? Know your limit.
